Siesta Key and our closest neighbor, Sarasota, have both become destination locations in their own right, especially when it comes to food and local produce!
Below, we’ve listed three of our favorite local farmer’s markets, where you can shop for just about anything your heart desires (and that you can fit in a bicycle basket, Dorothy style.)
The Sunday Market on Siesta Key
This intimate market takes place every Sunday morning from 8am to 1pm, featuring local stand-out vendors, like the popular Bread Bandit (sourdough loaves, freshly made croissants), local artists, handmade soaps, and artisanal olive oils. The market is just a short trolley ride from Turtle Beach Resort and a stone’s throw from the famous Siesta Beach. Pack yourself a market-inspired picnic and enjoy your edible bounty as you drink in the view of the Gulf of Mexico!
Sarasota Farmer’s Market
The Sarasota Farmer’s Market has been recognized as one of the best markets in the region, featuring over 70 vendors and spanning the length of picturesque (and aptly named) Lemon Avenue in the heart of the downtown district. From world class coffee to organic and locally grown veg, unique designer clothing and jewelry, handmade breads, pastas, pastries, and even a global smorgasbord of locally prepared foods, this market will not disappoint. Arrive early to avoid the crowded mix of tourists and locals alike. Open from 7am to 1pm every Saturday.
Phillippi Farmhouse Market
This market in south Sarasota takes place every Wednesday from 9am to 2pm during the high season of October through April. The charming open market feel invites a more relaxed shopping experience, not far from the bay and featuring several prepared food vendors for your snacking and lunchtime needs.
For island people, we don’t do farmers markets half-heartedly, boasting some of the region’s best collection of market vendors this side of the Gulf of Mexico! The next time you’re on Turtle Beach, take a market tour…We promise you won’t return disappointed, or hungry!
